A three-minute video from the ISKCON India Scholars Board argues that the Sastric Advisory Council’s 2005 paper on female diksa-gurus, which the GBC has accepted, explains away Srila Prabhupada’s Suniti purport with a mistaken claim about how Narada Muni initiated Dhruva.
INDIA — The ISKCON India Scholars Board (IISB) published a short video on 28 October 2026 titled “SAC Wrong: Dhruva got Pancharatrika initiation, not Vaidika”, arguing that the Sastric Advisory Council (SAC) misread the scriptures in its 2005 research paper on female diksa-gurus, and that the GBC passed its female diksa-guru (FDG) resolution on the strength of that paper.[1] The video presents IISB’s reading only; Akincana Gocara has not obtained a response from the SAC or the GBC.
The video opens with Srila Prabhupada’s purport to Srimad-Bhagavatam 4.12.32, which concerns Dhruva Maharaja’s mother, Suniti, his first instructor:[1][2]
“Sunīti, however, being a woman, and specifically his mother, could not become Dhruva Mahārāja’s dīkṣā-guru.”
Srila Prabhupada, purport to Srimad-Bhagavatam 4.12.32 [2]
According to the video, the SAC’s 2005 paper called this “the strongest statement against the possibility of female diksha gurus”, and answered it by arguing that the Vedic system of Satya-yuga did not apply to women:[1]
“Additionally, the Vedic system was operating during the Satya Yuga. Under that system, women generally did not receive initiation. Therefore, logically, they also could not give it.”
SAC 2005 paper, as quoted in the IISB video [1]
The SAC paper, as quoted by the second speaker, then contrasts this with the later system: “Under the more recent Pancharatrika system, however, qualified women can accept and offer initiation.”[1]
The first speaker cites the Bhagavatam commentary of Vamsidhara, who, he says, wrote that “because Dhruva was only five years old, upanayanam was not possible for him, since the shruti prescribes that a king should receive upanayanam at eleven”. Dhruva, he concludes, did not receive Vedic initiation from Narada: “The SAC was wrong, and there are other such errors.”[1]
The second speaker says that in its 2021 amendment to the FDG resolution the GBC states that it accepts the SAC’s 2005 paper, and identifies what he calls two levels of error in it:[1]
In support he cites Srila Prabhupada’s purport to Srimad-Bhagavatam 8.12.10, which quotes the verse “pañcarātrasya kṛtsnasya vaktā tu bhagavān svayam”, explained there as “the pañcarātra system is spoken by the Supreme Personality of Godhead, just like Bhagavad-gītā”, and a passage of the Caitanya-caritamrta in which Madhvacarya’s quotation from the Bhavisya Purana places the Pancaratra alongside the Vedas and the Mahabharata.[1][3]
“Therefore, the SAC research directly contradicts the authentic Pancharatra scriptures. Yet, the GBC accepts the SAC research and passed the FDG resolution.”

The SAC paper has been the GBC’s main scriptural reference in the debate over Vaishnavi diksa-gurus (VDGs), and IISB has contested it in papers and videos for years; Akincana Gocara has published several of those responses (see Read Also).[4][5] The video does not name its two speakers, and its quotations from the SAC paper, Vamsidhara and the Bharadvaja-samhita are given here as the speakers read them; Akincana Gocara checked the two Srimad-Bhagavatam purports against Vedabase.[1][2][3] The video had about 600 views on the morning of 29 October.[1]
