The Patel Nagar temple’s sevaks farm ten acres on Raisen Road with cow-dung manure and neem-and-buttermilk pest control, and the harvest feeds both the Deities and the kitchen, Dainik Bhaskar reports.
BHOPAL, India — The ISKCON temple in Patel Nagar, Bhopal, is growing its own grain and vegetables on a ten-acre organic farm near Ramakhedi village on Raisen Road, according to a report by Dainik Bhaskar published on 28 September 2026. The produce is used for the Deities’ bhoga and for the meals of the temple’s sevaks.
The newspaper says the sevaks do all the farm work themselves, including weeding, hoeing and irrigation, and have been trained in organic farming and compost-making. The temple kitchen prepares food for about 60 sevaks every day.
“Agriculture is the principal means of preserving humanity and nature,” the temple’s in-charge, Swami Achyuta Das, told the newspaper. “As the grain is, so will be its effect on the mind and on life.”
Manure is prepared from cow dung, cow urine, jaggery, mustard cake and urad flour, with the dung brought in from nearby goshalas, the report says. For pest control the farm uses neem oil, powdered neem leaves and sour buttermilk instead of chemical pesticides. The paper notes that the project reduces the temple’s dependence on the market and on machinery.
In one crop cycle the farm produces about 50 quintals of wheat, 10 quintals of paddy and 5 quintals of pulses, according to figures given in the report. It also grows mango, chikoo, papaya and guava; roses, marigold, mogra and chrysanthemum for the Deities; and vegetables such as potato, brinjal, tomato, ridge gourd and okra.
The report frames the project as a practical expression of Krishna’s worship of Govardhan Hill and its message of connection with nature.
