Appreciating the celebrations of Rama Navami at the Varachha branch of ISKCON in Surat, the Prime Minister of India, Sri Narendra Modi pointed out the relevance of the teachings of Lord Ramachandra to modern times.
Murtimaan Das President of ISKCON Varachha said, “The Prime Minister compared Lord Rama’s own ideal example of compassion with the activities of ISKCON based on compassion and commitment, and the selfless service the organisation extends to society in line with the teachings of Lord Rama.”
“India is a nation where transformation is driven by the people, by the power of coming together for a cause,” said Prime Minister Modi. “From feeding the hungry during the pandemic, to ensuring education for children, the wide variety of initiatives of ISKCON are an example of the change that society can bring in.”
The Prime Minister also said that the organisation of Rama Navami celebrations “is a powerful medium to connect the people particularly Yuva-Shakti (the strength of the youth), with the lofty ideals and values of our culture.”
In a separate letter, the Chief Minister of Gujarat, Bhupendra Patel wished ISKCON Varachha a ‘grand success’ in its religious and social activities, and said that “The philanthropic philosophy professed by our religious heros has perpetual relevance and eternal values across the world.”
The Governor of Gujarat, Sri Acharya Devvrat also joined in congratulating ISKCON Varachha and said that he was confident that “the humanitarian work carried out by the International Society for Krishna Consciousness – ISKCON – will give a new impetus for the building of a new Bharat.”
