Our Eternal Position

The constitutional position of the jīva is to serve Kṛṣṇa, but he has to do that through the agency of a confidential devotee. Śrīla Prabhupāda is our eternal link with Kṛṣṇa (janme janme prabhu sei). So for Prabhupāda’s disciples at least, we feel that not only service to Kṛṣṇa, but service to Prabhupāda also, is our constitutional position, our intrinsic, inseparable nature. Mora svarūpa haya—prabhupādera nitya-dāsa.

When Lord Caitanya told Sanātana Gosvāmī that Kṛṣṇa had saved him from hell, Sanātana replied, “I do not know Kṛṣṇa. I only know Your mercy.” Similarly, when Śrīla Prabhupāda was sick in America in a hospital where only a few of his disciples cared about him, so far from Vṛndāvana, voluntarily coming in contact with material adversities just to save us, he sat up in bed and declared, “I do not know Kṛṣṇa. I only know my guru-mahārāja.” (Śrīla Prabhupāda-līlāmṛta, Ch. 25)

Śrīla Prabhupāda, for me also it is totally true. I do not know Kṛṣṇa. I know only you. And if I do know anything about Kṛṣṇa, it is only because you have enlightened me.

“At every moment I bow down to His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupāda, whose lotus feet are my only shelter. He is my ever well-wishing friend, spiritual father, and master. He is the be-all and end-all of my life, and is the exalted spiritual master of the entire world.” (From a poem by Kuśakratha dāsa)

The author in his constitutional position: bowed down at the lotus feet of Śrīla Prabhupāda. Even though I must rise up in order to do some service (we have to do something practical), I pray to remain eternally bowed down before Śrīla Prabhupāda.
