What Do I Say in My Books?

When we went to Srila Prabhupada in the beginning and complained about something strange in a godbrother’s instructions or actions, which seemed to not perfectly line up with what we understood as our spiritual master’s words, he would simply say “what do I say in my books?”
So if we hear submissively from Srila Prabhupada’s message and have a sincere desire to have something real, then we can have faith that what Krsna is revealing to us from within the heart
will always coincide with and is endorsing what we have heard from His most confidential servant, and we can know that it is real and true. And no matter what is going on around us we can stay focused on “what did I say in my books?”
We are in the material world and perhaps Institutions will always eventually become ecclesiastic. But we do not have to be bothered by that. Our own relationship with Krsna is not at all dependent on those who are in these institutions . Besides sincerity we also need intelligence. If we do not have the fine intelligence it takes to properly understand the path of devotional service, there is chance of being led astray by so many things.
There is always an opportunity for the development of a type of “party line” that is intimately mingling with and overlapping the straight and narrow path of the science of devotional service. What do we expect? But as we advance in devotional service these misconceptions gradually fall away. Under our present circumstances, we may not have the courage to leave the security of going along with the status quo. And as teachers we may not have the courage to forsake whatever benefit there is by misleading the rank and file, and fail to become unwavering champions of the Truth. But as we continue on this sublime path of devotional service all these unwanted things will gradually diminish.
Giving up everything and following perfectly in the footsteps of our beloved spiritual master is certainly a very rare and great thing. Who can do it? But if Krsna by His infinite mercy decides to come down and pick us up from the material ocean there is every chance for success in overcoming an insurmountable situation we find ourselves in. If that is true, then all there is left to do is to pray for His mercy.
