Please Don’t Deceive Me

(An address by Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati Thakur to his audience at the onset of their departure after a Krishna Conscious festival held at one of his temples.)

All of you came with the intention to serve Kṛṣṇa, and on that basis I became attached to you. Yet now I see that you attended this ceremony only as a fashion and are returning home to domestic affairs, though you assured me that you would serve Kṛṣṇa. Thus I have been deceived. If you say, ‘No Prabhupāda, we did not deceive you. We just have a few days’ work to complete, just a few responsibilities to tend to, after which we will return and do whatever you instruct,’ then I say there is no need for it. If someone says, ‘My house is on fire, so first let me put it out; then I will come,’ still I maintain that there is no need for that. If fire burns the whole world, do not waste time trying to put it out. All necessities can be met only by Kṛṣṇa-sevā. You have no obligation other than to serve Kṛṣṇa. The object of your and everyone’s self-interest is Śrī Kṛṣṇa. The living being has no duty other than to serve Him. All your fulfilment reposes in Kṛṣṇa’s lotus feet.

(In fact, the potency of this speech was (and is) so much one the audience members decided to really not return home and become a full time member of Srila Saraswati Thakur’s movement, then and there itself.)

“Sri Vamsidasa Babaji” Glimpses into the Life of a Vaisnava Saint- A book by HH Bhakti Vikasa Swami.

Srimad Bhagavad-gita (BG 9.13) declares that devotees of the Lord even though situated in the material world are actually under the spiritual energy of the Lord and therefore not subject to material laws. Srimad Bhagavatam (SB 1.1.15) further extols the glories of pure devotees of the Lord and states in a verse that such great devotees of the Lord can ‘at once’ sanctify anyone who comes in contact with them whereas the river Ganga purifies after repeated contact. What a great benediction it is therefore for anyone to behold such a personality whom merely by seeing one becomes purified and even gains the privilege of performing devotional service thus making his birth in this material life worthwhile!

Srila Vamsidas Babaji was such a great personality.

A description of the life and pastimes of this great personality are given in the book titled; Sri Vamsidasa Babaji by H.H. Bhakti Vikasa Swami. read more

Can society be moral without Varnasrama-dharma?

Over at American Greatness is this piece on recent revelations of child abuse in the Roman Catholic Church (bolding added):

Even in a faith founded upon the notion that there is no such thing as an unforgivable sin, should the penitent be sincere, what has been occurring in the church over the past 70 years or so would surely test the mercy of Christ himself.

No need to go over the nauseating details. The Church—and clearly not just in Pennsylvania—has descended into a nest of predatory perverts, largely but not exclusively homosexual, but child-molesters all. Even worse, its upper administrative reaches, the bishops, have conducted a cover-up under the guise of “compassion” and “protecting the Church,” denying, obfuscating, and lying about the extent of the problem—even as some of them were charter members of the racket. Their sanctimony is even more sickening than the sins they concealed, if such a thing is possible. read more

All Pranams to our Beloved Prabhupada

Never make the mistake of thinking that Srila Prabhupada is like us, and is somehow influenced by the modes of nature. He lives with Krsna always, but to teach fools like me, he has kindly come down to the second level devotee stage simple to be able to preach for Krsna.

So we need to guard against forgetting this and thinking that Prabhupada is being influenced by material nature like us. We can never dare to minimize our founding Acarya and consider him an ordinary man. We will simply go to hell. Our beloved Srila Prabhupada is the spotless and perfectly unalloyed devotee of Krsna.

The vaishnava guru is described in all the revealed scriptures as the external manifestation of Supersoul. All the instructions we have received from him are non-different from Krsna’s instructions, which the bone fide guru is simply passing along. read more

Rarely checking for errors not the same as never checking for errors. It's not even close to the same thing.

Regarding the editing of Srila Prabhupada’s books, Srila Prabhuapda rarely checking his own books for errors during his life time is not the same as never checking them–not even close.

Let’s say that a book has an average of one error every ten pages. That means that if you open up the book to any random location and read the page, you have a 10% chance of finding an error.

Now, if you do that repeatedly, the chances of finding at least one error very quickly approach a near certainty. read more

Living in the Holy Name Nataraja Dasa

For to achieve the state of „Living in the holy name“ on the Street is actually the moment when Harinam actually can be started. Then you belong to Harinam and Harinam belong to you.

Harinam is not just 2 Lines for 1-2 hours, inbetween other “more important“ duties, when you constantly look on the clock, for to not “stand“ too long and to not be too “late“.

Literary devotees are robbing themselves for decades with such attitude. And therefore they never open up, they never experience this „living in the holy name“ on the streets… When „everyone wants to chant“, when whoever you meet – they are willing to sing and dance, and you can answer to the questions from people who were first time in the life involved in chanting and dancing, and when you can give them books. read more

Understanding that Srila Prabhupada is not an Ordinary Man Mahananda Das(ACBSP)

In some small circles it is becoming an alarming trend in ISKCON to subtly minimize our beloved spiritual master. This is very dangerous because our real advancement in devotional service is a direct result of our having full faith in both Srila Prabhupada and Lord Krsna.

They say that this explicit faith in the bona fide guru is absolutely required. “To anyone who has full faith in the Supreme Personality of Godhead and the spiritual master, all the imports of the Vedic literatures are revealed. He does not have to seek separately.” So as faithful disciples of Srila Prabhupada, we see our beloved guru like that. He is as good as Krsna because he is the most confidential servant of Krsna. read more

To be Sadhvis Nataraja Dasa

Both of my dear “daughters” – young wives of my sons – Irina and Prema – did have birthdays in the beginning of July.

There is some thoughts on this occasion.

Somehow happened that Vaisnavi Ministry of our dear movement did not associate themselves nor with to be chaste wives, nor with to be loving mothers, nor with to be obedient daughters…
Somehow happened that therms like “Vaisnavi” are build and used now as far away from stri dharma as possible… read more

Where is the Difficulty? Nataraja Dasa

About practice

Some may say, that:

“It is difficult to apply the laws of Manu in today’s world since the conditions that exist now are very different from those when they were formally codified.”

But it’s not really true – even if some laws we may not be able to apply, due to current law system – still there are plenty of principal laws, which we can definitely apply. In Bhagavad Gita is said, that better to imperfectly do what is your duty than perfectly what is not. The same is said in Manu Samhita itself – even if you are imperfect and conditions imperfect, better is to do what is your dharma and duties. read more

Some humble thoughts on our beloved Srila Prabhupada…. Mahananda Das(ACBSP)

Try to understand what happens when someone surrenders to Krsna. The modes of nature disappear. Srila Prabhupada is not in this world, but has a direct one-on-one relationship with Krsna on a moment to moment basis. Every moment Srila Prabhupada speaks, every word, is transcendental. Whatever he is saying, we can understand that somehow it is true because it is spoken by Krsna through him, even though our so-called intelligence wants to convince us otherwise.

Manu Samhita confirms in its 98th verse of the 1st chapter, उत्पत्तिरेव विप्रस्य मूर्तिर्धर्मस्य शाश्वती _murthir dharmasya shasvati_, that personalities like Srila Prabhupada are the embodiment of Vedic scriptures, which includes the transcendental science of how to re-establish our true connection with the Absolute Truth. This complete spiritual knowledge is there in our hearts as Supersoul, and Srila Prabhupada has become the manifestation of this same identical absolute truth as the external manifestation of this same Supersoul. For this reason, we say he is “as good as Krsna.” read more
